SAN ANGELO, TX — The phrase, out of the box, is often used to describe creativity. That applies to one of the newest shops in San Angelo where everything is anything but ordinary.
Two friends, Denise Wanoreck and Jan Mullins had a need.
"We wanted a shop to show our art,” Jan Mullins, co-owner of Out Of The Box said.
"Before we were doing our arts and crafts at home,” Denise Wanoreck, co-owner of Out Of The Box said.
That search for a space lead them to the old American Classifieds building, where there was plenty of it.
"We instantly got good vibes but we didn't know how were going to fill it up. That’s when we got the idea,” Mullins said.
The two artists did what they do best: create and share.
Any artist can rent space in this building for one dollar per square foot, and several already have. This showroom has an ample assortment of artwork and a copious conglomerate of creations. It's like going to an art event, but more beneficial to the artisans themselves.
"We don't have to pay that 33, 44 percent right off the top for somewhere to show our artwork. We don't have to go to events, set up the tables, break them down, deal with the weather, hot, cold, rainy, destroying your merchandise,” Wanoreck said.
Jan and Denise were determined to find a solution for all artists...and they succeeded.
"This way we have a place for our stuff,” Wanoreck said.
Out Of The Box is open to the public, Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. they're located at 15 north Tyler street in san Angelo.
