Carlsbad murder suspect arrested in Erath County

CARLSBAD, Texas — On Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020, the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office responded to a 9-1-1 call from the 11000 block of Marshall Street in Carlsbad.

When deputies arrived, they found a white male in his mid-20's dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Justin Ray Ramirez was identified as a person of interest in the investigation and later developed as a suspect. An arrest warrant charging Ramirez for murder was obtained by law enforcement.

Information developed during the investigation indicated Ramirez had fled the area.

At approximately 4 p.m., Ramirez was observed driving a white 2012 Chevy Malibu, traveling through Erath County.

Officers stopped the vehicle and Ramirez was arrested on the outstanding murder warrant. A second individual, who is also a person of interest in the investigation, was also taken into custody on other charges.

The Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Rangers, Texas Parks and Wildlife, San Angelo Police Department and other area law enforcement agencies are assisting in the investigation.

There is no further threat to public safety at this time as a result of criminal event.

This is on ongoing investigation and no further information has been released by the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.
