Pool-goers enjoy the municipal pool as it closes after Labor Day

Families packed the pool to enjoy the sunshine on Labor Day.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Lifeguard Tryston Mitcham says it’s his first year working as a lifeguard at the pool and he had a blast helping non-swimmers this summer.

“I had a pretty good experience being a lifeguard for my first year. I have never seen it so packed like it is today though,” Mitcham mentioned.

Not too long ago, the pool's opening was delayed because of a shortage of lifeguards and COVID-19 restrictions. After staffing was up to par and regulations were in place, the public was open to take a splash in one of the only community pools in San Angelo.

Another consistent swimmer, Alyssa Rodriguez, said she is going to deeply miss the pool and was excited to swim whenever it was open.

“I’m so sad to see the pool is closing. Me and my family have had a blast here this summer but we are definitely looking forward to next year,” Rodriguez said.

While the pool is closing after Labor Day, they plan to open again next year in the summer of 2022.
