ABILENE, Texas — Restoration efforts for customers affected by a West Texas winter storm earlier in the week entered its final phase Friday.
According to an AEP Texas press release, as of 4 p.m. Friday, approximately 250 customers were without power in the Abilene district, compared to 14,400 at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
“The restoration team will continue addressing individual outages until we have restored service to every customer whose home or facility is capable of taking power,” Greg Blair, AEP Texas manager of Community Affairs and Customer Service, said.
Blair also said AEP thanks its customers for their patience and support during the restoration process.
The release said the estimated restoration time for Vernon and Hamlin has been pushed back to 9 p.m. Saturday; however, many residents may likely be restored earlier.
AEP Texas provided the following breakdown of areas with the most outages and preliminary estimated restoration times.
- Childress - 50 customers without power - achieved 95% restoration
- Abilene - 2 customers without power - achieved 95% restoration
- Vernon - 150 customers without power - 9 p.m. Saturday
- Stamford - No customers without power - achieved 95% restoration
- Hamlin - 50 customers without power - 9 p.m. Saturday
- Cisco - No customers without power - achieved 95% restoration
The release also said the estimate may change as restoration efforts continue and are projection for restoring service to most customers who can take power.
A significant number of outages will need to be addressed on a one-on-one basis and could require more time to restore power.
