Abilene police looking for suspect who opened fire on officers, injuring one

Authorities are looking for James Wesley Key, 39, of Abilene and say he should be considered armed and dangerous.

ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Police Department is asking for the public's help in finding James Wesley Key, 39, of Abilene, who is wanted by authorities after he opened fire on APD officers, injuring one. 

On Tuesday night, officers tried to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle. Key evaded officers and went to a home in the 1700 block of Roosevelt Street. APD says there was a brief foot chase before Key opened fire on the officers at the scene.

One APD officer was injured and taken to the hospital, then later released.

APD, the Taylor County Sheriff's Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety conducted an extensive search for Key after the shooting. 

Wesley is known to carry a gun. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
