ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Fire Department crews found the body of a man inside a motel room while responding to a fire at the complex Thursday morning.
At around 7:47 a.m. Thursday, AFD responded to a reported structure fire at a motel complex in the 3100 block of South 1st Street. When they got to the scene, crews found a single-story motel with heavy smoke coming from one room.
They had to force entry, but quickly brought the fire under control.
During firefighting operations, a man was found dead inside the room. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
AFD says the fire is under investigation and there is no foul play suspected. Damages to the property are estimated at $25,000.
