More than $1M in scholarships distributed by Community Foundation of Abilene

The foundation says this year's distribution - $1,068,150 to 219 students - is a record amount.

ABILENE, Texas — The Community Foundation of Abilene announced Monday it has awarded a record amount in scholarships this year - $1,068,150 to 219 students.

A reception for the recipients was held at the Hendrick Home for Children, where donors who established the scholarship funds were invited to meet the students, who are pursuing specific postsecondary careers or certifications in trades such as welding and mechanics. 

The more than 140 scholarship funds managed by the foundation are established in partnership with donors to support deserving students in the Big Country.
