NOLAN COUNTY, Texas — UPDATE (11:20 a.m. Dec. 22): DPS says Interstate 20 traffic in Nolan County that was diverted because of an overnight crash is now open. Normal traffic flow has been restored.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Texas Department of Public Safety said Friday morning that Interstate 20 at milepost 237 to 239 on both the east and westbound roadways are closed because of a gasoline spill.
Traffic is being diverted to the service roads because of an overturned semitruck towing a tanker trailer containing the hazardous material.
DPS is investigating a collision that happened around 12:30 a.m. Friday. The semitruck was traveling west when the driver lost control and overturned into the center median at mile marker 238. The tanker's top loading hatch was damaged in the crash, which caused a limited amount of gasoline to spill out onto the highway.
The Pulido Transport LLC truck driver was taken to a local hospital to be examined, but was not reported to be injured, DPS said.
Traffic will be diverted around the crash until the tanker can be removed and the area cleaned. Environmental agencies have been notified and are overseeing the cleanup.
Drivers should anticipate the closure and avoid the area, if possible, to help minimize travel delay. If traveling through the area, anticipate the slowdown of traffic because of the clean-up and ongoing roadway construction. Traffic will slow and possibly stop in the area.
Drivers are also asked to watch out for emergency vehicles and responders, as well as traffic control personnel guiding motorists through the area.
This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
