BLACKWELL, Texas — Blackwell Consolidated Independent School District released a statement regarding Tommy Chambliss, an elementary teacher being placed on administrative leave.
According to the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office, 58-year-old, Tommy Chambliss is being charged with three counts of indecency with a child. He was taken into custody on December 16.
The district stated, Chambliss was placed on administrative leave on December 12 due to a parent inquiry recognized as, “suspicious behavior on the part of Mr. Chambliss.”
Chambliss was formerly indicted Tuesday morning with three counts of indecency of a child.
According to the Nolan County Sheriff, David Warren, one victim is confirmed to be an elementary age girl at the time of the incident. Other potential victims are around the same age.
"My understanding is any of the incidents would've occurred actually on school property or potentially a school bus or a school-sponsored event,” Sheriff Warren said.
According to the BCISD statement, "Mr. Chambliss passed a Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal background check prior to his 2008 employment at Blackwell CISD.”
The investigation is still ongoing.
Chambliss is out on a $100,000 bond with conditions.
