SAN ANGELO, Texas — It was another sell out crowd at the San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Wednesday night. This night was different from others. The celebration wasn’t all about what’s happening in the ring, but rather who came to watch.
The people recognized are the ones who served the red, white and blue. Retired U-S Army Brigadier General Mike Boyd said he loves to see the community
"The airmen, soldiers, sailors and marines we got about 13 hundred of them coming out tonight it’s a sellout crowd again for us here at the rodeo," said Boyd.
Boyd served 30 years, and has been coming to the stock show for 43 years. His favorite part is watching the bull riding, even though he would never try it because he said he has trouble getting out of his truck. What he really loves seeing is the community come together to honor the service men and women.
"We are probably the most supportive local community for the military than anybody in the whole group," said Boyd.
It brings great appreciation to Boyd seeing everyone from the different branches of military. Boyd still gets goosebumps when he stands to honor the country he served.
"I still tear up every time…so you know we’ll recognize them the service people we’ll recognize their families tonight and then we’ll ask all the veterans to stand," said Boyd.
Boyd's final message to those who served is, thank you. Boyd knows all too well the service is one that cannot be repaid.
