SAN ANGELO, Texas — Much of the day Friday will be dry and quiet with temperatures climbing into the lower 90s. However, things drastically change Friday evening as a strong storm system blows into the area.

Storms will form in far western Texas late Friday afternoon, and quickly become strong to severe. They will slowly push eastward during the evening hours, bringing heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and damaging winds.

As this storm system moves through, it will bring torrential rainfall that may lead to isolated flooding in a few locations. Wind gusts may also exceed 60-70-plus mph with the leading edge of these storms. Because of this threat, the Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed much of West Texas under an enhanced risk of severe weather (level three of five).

By the late evening hours, storms will be moving through our eastern counties and off into the Texas Hill Country. The focus during the overnight hours shifts to the I-35 corridor and we will calm things down throughout West Texas.
