SAN ANGELO, Texas — Government agencies will be joining together next month in West Texas to share a common idea: supporting small businesses.

From 8 a.m.- 2 p.m. Nov. 2, Meet the Buyer for Small Businesses will take place at the Business Resource Center in San Angelo, 69 N. Chadbourne St.

The free event is organized by the Texas Tech University Northwest Texas APEX Accelerator Center alongside the Angelo State Small Business Development Center and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce as a way to increase knowledge on government organizations, bids, websites, contracts and more.

APEX is an organization meant to assist small businesses with local, state and national agencies. Formerly known as PTAC, this group is partially funded by the Department of Defense, where it recently introduced a free counselor service to the San Angelo community.

"We feel very fortunate to have the expertise and knowledge of several agencies willing to travel to San Angelo as well as local agencies for this new event to talk to business owners in-person," APEX Accelerator Center regional director Rich Lyles said. "We currently serve 117 counties and feel there is much potential in San Angelo and surrounding area to become more involved in government contracting."

Agencies at this particular event will include Goodfellow Air Force Base, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, BuyBoard, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, TxDOT, USDA, San Angelo Independent School District and Angelo State.

Attendance is free but sign-up is required ahead of time at nwtapex.

Lunch will be provided by the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Economic Development and enrollment is limited.
