Asleep At The Wheel will kick off its 50th anniversary tour in San Angelo headlining the 2020 West Texas Boys Ranch Ball with special guest Tommy Alverson.
The ball will be held Saturday, Jan. 18, 2020, in the First Financial Pavilion (formerly the Wells Fargo Pavilion). The show will benefit the boys of the West Texas Boys Ranch.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. The silent auction will commence and a cash bar will be available. Dinner will be served promptly at 7:30 p.m., with Alverson's performance at 8:15 pm.
Headliners Asleep At The Wheel will take the stage at 9:30 p.m.
Ray Benson founded Asleep at the Wheel in Paw Paw, W. Va., 49 years ago and will return to the West Texas Boys Ranch Ball to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary in 2020. Now based in Austin, the band holds 10 Grammy awards, 20 studio albums and 20 singles on the Billboard country charts.
The Grammy Award-winning album, "Still The King: Celebrating the Music of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys," is the band’s most recent release (2015) and marks its third full-length Bob Wills tribute album.
The 2020 West Texas Boys Ranch Ball! tickets went on sale at 8 a.m. Monday at wtbr.org.
