Carnival prepares for the rodeo, doubles in size

The San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo is preparing and upgrading its carnival before thousands of people come to enjoy.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Everything really is bigger in Texas, especially at this year's San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo carnival. For the first time in 30 years, the rodeo changed its carnival operator, and now the carnival is doubling in size.

Last year, the carnival had approximately 10-20 small rides and one-two big rides. This year, its boasting 30-40 small rides, and seven-eight big ones.

Justin Jonas, San Angelo Stock Show & Rodeo Executive Director, said the increase in crowd numbers made the change necessary.

"We've got one of the largest carnivals that are in the United States," Jonas said.

The carnival will run from Jan. 30-Feb. 16 with crowds of more than 150,000 expected.
