West Texas artists use the force to battle it out

The Revenge of the Fifth Art Battle is taking place at the Casual Pint Dec. 21.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — West Texas artists are battling it out for a cash prize at the sixth art battle, Revenge of the Fifth, planned for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at The Casual Pint, 19 E. Concho Ave.

Approximately 15-20 artists will have one hour to create a "Star Wars" themed art piece with a medium of their choice. Artists have used digital graphic software, spray paint, airbrush, and even coffee grounds to express their creativity.

To compete in the battle, reach out to The Casual Pint or Martin Lucero, the owner of Retro Gaming and Collectibles. They will ask for a submission of artwork to measure the artist’s level, but that's it.

Art battles are free for patrons and artists.

It's still not too late to participate, Lucero said.

This is a family-friendly event where guests can walk around and observe the artists working. There are also drinks and arcade games available to pass the time.

Lucero said they will also have a cosplayer present. Artists and patrons are welcome to dress up for the "Star Wars" battle.

The next battle will be in February 2020. The theme has not yet been released.
