Jose Rivera describes EMS preparation for San Angelo Rodeo after 21 years of service

Rivera has volunteered and eventually been contracted to work for the San Angelo Rodeo as an EMS professional.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Cowboys and cowgirls are getting in their last nights of rest before the chaos of opening night for the San Angelo rodeo kicks in, but they aren’t the only ones making preparations for the madness.

For first responders like Jose Rivera, rodeo season is the biggest event they will work all year.

"This is our Super Bowl event of the year," Rivera said. "Preparation starts weeks in advance before the event, making sure that all of our medical supplies are good to go, our equipment is ready to go in case of emergency.”

Rivera is an emergency management coordinator and has been working on the fairgrounds for the past 21 years. He believes his purpose was ordained by a higher power.

"I believe that God has given everyone a talent and it is our job to use that talent and share that talent with others," Rivera said.

The San Angelo rodeo begins on April 5th, and luckily for all the eventgoers over the next three weeks, people like Rivera will be on hand to give aid to those in need.
