Ballinger police officer dies after battle with COVID-19

The Ballinger and Paint Rock community mourn the loss of Ballinger Police Department officer Donald Moore.

BALLINGER, Texas — Donald Ray Moore, Ballinger Police Department reserve officer since 2017 lost his battle to COVID-19 and died July 24, at Shannon Medical Center. Today, the Ballinger and Paint Rock community paid their respects in honor of Moore.

Moore was a proud United States Army veteran, law enforcement officer for almost 30 years, and Concho County conservationist.

The Ballinger Police Department and fire department met early this morning to escort Moore to the procession service. The community stood at the sides of the street, waving their American flags and saluting the late officer.

Chief of the Ballinger Police Department Ray Cornutt reflected on the type of man Moore was and what he left behind at the station.

"It was always his upbeat attitude. I don't know if I ever saw him without a smile. He'd always come in, he was willing to be here or happy to be here, willing to work with whoever. He was easy going. I mean he was just a fun guy to be around. We're gonna miss him and wish his family well." Moore said.

Moore will be buried Monday, Aug. 2, in San Antonio.

He was 62 years old and left behind a wife and five children.
