SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Concho Christmas Celebration is hosting the 27th Annual Tour of Lights from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. beginning Saturday, Dec. 5 along the banks of the Concho River.

According to Leanne Schneider, director of community relations for Reliant Energy, this is the company’s third year sponsoring the tour and the company is very excited to be back.

“Each year the Concho Christmas adds new displays and new lights,” Schneider said. “The other thing they are doing is switching everything to energy-efficient LED lights.”

The use of LED lights is part of Reliant Energy’s sponsorship model and helps power the entire tour as well as allowing additional displays to be added.

“Most people know Reliant as a home or business electricity provider, but we really do believe in giving back to the communities and we love being in San Angelo for this holiday tradition, “ Schneider said.

Blinking Santa hats will be given to visitors attending the Tour of Lights and attendees can take the tour multiple times through Thursday, Dec. 31.

The 2.5-mile drive will feature familiar favorites such as the lights tunnel, 12 Days of Christmas, a gingerbread house and toy factory among others.

“This year, of course, it is one of the safest things families can go out and do and still enjoy together as a family, being that you are in your car, with your family and driving the whole way,” Schneider said.

In addition to the Tour of Lights, other events such as Tuba Christmas at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Bike through the Lights and concerts at the Farmers Market pavilion will also take place.

Schneider gave the following energy conservation and safety tips for residents decorating for the holidays.

  • Use LEDS lights - LED lights use approximately 75% less electricity than incandescent lights
  • Use timers -  place lights and lawn ornaments on a timer. Lights and ornaments will turn on and off automatically according to the timer settings
  • Do not overload plugs – only connect the number of items that can be plugged in or strung together based on the guidelines and safety recommendations
  • Use lights properly – inside lights inside the home and outside lights outside the home or use inside/outside lights.
