It’s an old Mexican-American tradition. You take some confetti eggs…and crack them on someone’s head!

It’s meant to bring good luck to the person you crack it on.

They’re called cascarones, which means “shell hits.”

You can decorate them in any color, and it’s typically done around Easter.

Chase your cousin around and smash it or sneak up on someone – like your mom or brothers – and smash them as hard as you can!

“’Cause it’s fun,” Lorelei Baker said.

“Why is it fun?”

“’Cause you get to like, I don’t know. Yeah, like, smash it on their head and it’s really fun.”

The idea was first seen in Asia and later brought to Italy by Marco Polo. At that time, the eggs were filled with perfume powder.

When it was brought to Mexico in the mid-1800s is when people started filling them with confetti.
