City of San Angelo sets new social distancing guidelines for grocery and building supply stores to help prevent spread of COVID-19

SAN ANGELO, Texas — After the fifth confirmed case of COVID-19 was announced in Tom Green County, local health authorities issued a new order Sunday limiting grocery stores and home improvement/building supply stores to no more than 100 customers in the store at a time. Social distancing must be maintained between all customers, according to the order.

Stores are now required to have only one controlled entrance, maintained by a person who will ensure that the measure is being followed.

Each establishment must ensure that customers are six feet between customers.

Additionally, the order states stores must take extra measures to sanitize common surfaces, including, but not limited to, carts, baskets, credit card machines, checkout lanes, restroom door handles and sink faucets.

All employees are ordered to ensure proper hygiene through frequent handwashing and any employee displaying signs of illness shall be sent home, the order states.

All stores were required to be in compliance with the order by noon Sunday.
