CLYDE, Texas — About two years ago, community members of Clyde established a board for the local cemetery to help maintain it.
"My grandparents, and two uncles, and three aunts are buried there…so that's how I got interested in cleaning it up, straightening it up,” cemetery board president, Larry Smedley said.
Recently, the board paved the main roads at both the East and West cemeteries. However, the west side of the Old West Cemetery need volunteers to help clear it up.
"There's a series of trees, and brush, all kinds of stuff and we're wanting to clean that out and put up a privacy fence like we did with the other neighborhood,” Smedley said.
Funds are also needed for fencing.
"660 feet of stockade fence...we didn't want to use wood post and wood stringers because they will rot eventually, the steel should last for 50 years,” Smedley said.
