SAN ANGELO, Texas — The blue and white pinwheel carries a deeper meaning during the month of April.
It's a symbol for Child Abuse Prevention Month - a time when the community and organizations discuss boundaries, stay alert and understand the signs of child abuse can help create safer environments for all children.
The Children's Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas is using the pinwheel to signify hope, health and happiness for children who need it.
“The pinwheel is the perfect symbol because it represents a child. They're whimsical, they're hopeful, and they believe in all of the good of the world. And so when you see a pinwheel, we want the community to think. When you look at a child, you should see the hope and the dreams and the happiness that every child brings,” Children's Advocacy Center of Greater West Texas Chief Development Officer, Justin DeLoach, said.
Childhelp.org says the United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations – losing on average, five children every day to child abuse and neglect.
This is why during this Child Abuse Prevention Month and every month, the CAC has programs and informational meetings in place so everyone will have a new spin on how to go about protecting children
“April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and it's a national initiative that we do bring to local attention because of outreach and awareness for child abuse prevention. That begins with every single person. We at the Children's Advocacy Center want to ensure that our community is educated and has all the tools that they need to ensure every child has a safe and nurturing home,” DeLoach said.
