SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo City Council announced Tuesday afternoon it had accepted a contract for the future sale of 324 acres at Ford Ranch. The City pumps water from the Hickory Aquifer which is located on the ranch.

The acres at Ford Ranch, which is marketed as Ford Ranch Farm, were sold for no less than $450,000 or $1,385 per acre and bought by a neighboring property owner.

The City originally purchased the ranch for $44 million and in March 2020 it announced the sale of 864 acres in the southeast corner of the ranch to Riverbend, Texas LLC and High Point Ranch Expansion, LLC.

The Council approved the ranch purchase in November 2017.

The City determined buying the property would protect San Angelo's stake in the Hickory Aquifer, as well as, a $120 million dollar investment that was made to develop the aquifer as a source for drinking water.
