SAN ANGELO, Texas — Over the weekend, storms came through portions of the City of San Angelo.
One of the places to take damage from the storms was St. Mark Presbyterian Church.
"About a year ago, the same roof blew off. We feel that is a pretty unlucky roof," St. Mark pastor Craig Meyers said.
The church is already starting to rebuild the fellowship hall, which was the only part to receive serious damage from the storm.
"The wind took the roof of the fellowship hall just ripped it up and took it off," Meyers said. "It knocked out the gas lines that feeds to the church and of course, the interior."
Meyers and the rest of his team were already cleaning up the debris left behind. They were able to move everything out of the fellowship hall to avoid more damage, and were able to mop up water.
Meyers already has contractors fixing the roof, and he and his team will redo the entire fellowship hall.
"All of the interior work we are going to do that ourselves," Meyers said.
Everything added up to fix the roof and interior will be approximately $16,000.
He is hoping to get it all done by the end of the week, so he can turn the gas back on for the church, and start having people come back.
Despite the damages, Meyers and his staff are still helping the community with food donations.
"Full free meals that should last about 10-12 days for each family and we service probably a hundred people a month," Meyers said.
He said he is always happy to help, but he does not encourage the community to make donations to the church.
He wants people to save their money during this hard time, and to let the church help the community whenever a family needs help.
