SAN ANGELO, Texas — HL: Local agency provides utility assistance throughout Concho Valley
The Concho Valley Community Action Agency provides residents throughout 11 communities in the Concho Valley.
The agency provides utility assistance, housing assistance and weatherization programs, which makes homes more energy-efficient.
According to Sarah Eckel, CVCAA Housing and Development director, the agency aids with electric, gas and water utility payments.
The agency’s outreach program travels to different locations at least twice a week to reach residents in need of assistance.
“We are going to be at the North Branch Library on June 16 to answer questions about utility assistance,” Eckel said. “We want to make it as easy as possible for our neighbors to learn about the assistance that we have available.”
The event will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the North Branch Library, 3001 N. Chadbourne St.
Attendees will receive assistance filling out applications, turn in documentation and find out more information about the programs available at CVCAA.
“If anyone needs help filling out applications if their neighbor or parents need help; they can come and talk to somebody one-on-one and not feel like they have to make an appointment or come all the way downtown,” Eckel said.
Appointments are not necessary to attend the assistance event or to drop off documentation.
“If you already have an application with us and know that you have to drop off some documentation or if there’s something that you are missing and want to come to drop it off, you can,” Eckel said.
CVCAA will assess which needs are the greatest and will work toward setting the person up on payments.
“Most folks qualify for multiple payments, and we’ll spread those out throughout the year for you,” Eckel said.
People who need utility assistance should bring identification, social security cards, copies of the utility bills or the account numbers, and income documentation.
CVCAA has these types of events at libraries because it provides people a place to makes copies, turn in documentation or scan items and send them to the agency.
“We keep our outreach calendar on our Facebook page and it’s also on the calendar of our website, so you’ll know where we’re going to be next,” Eckel said. “This is reaching some of our neighbors that are not in San Angelo; please look and find where we are going to be closest to you next time.”
CVCAA asks people to reach out to the agency if they need any special assistance or know of an opportunity to help the community.
“If you have an opportunity for us to come and help neighbors in the community, please let us know. We are always looking for ways to make the process more accessible for everyone,” Eckel said.
People can email the agency at info@cvcaa.org or by calling 325-653-2411.
