SAN ANGELO, Texas — Employment in the Lone Star State is booming, as Texas employers added more than 72,000 jobs.
“As anyone drives around, you see lots of, you know, help wanted signs,” Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas Director of Business Services Bill Dean said.
A recent report by the Texas Workforce Commission stated that July 2022 saw the lowest unemployment rate since before the pandemic.
“People are still working for jobs, employers are still looking for employees,” Concho Valley Workforce Development Board Business Development and Military Liaison, Alma Pedroza said.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott made a statement on the continuous job surge in the state by saying, “Businesses are investing with confidence in the Lone Star State because we’ve built a framework that allows free enterprise to flourish hardworking Texans to succeed.”
Dean says inflation has made an impact in the workforce.
“Employers are looking to expand and increase their workforce and I think that’s to combat some of the inflationary issues they're facing,” Dean said.
In the Concho Valley, there are around 4,000 job postings, ranging anywhere from construction, production and food industry.
“You name it, we have it,” Pedroza said.
In the Big Country, Dean says Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas has helped about 1,500 people just this year alone.
“Last year, that number was close to 3,000 and so we saw an increase, you know, after what we saw with what happened in the pandemic,” Dean said.
Workforce Solutions has served as the connector between employees and employers to help grow the workforce in Texas.
“If employers are looking for employees or customers are looking for jobs, that's what we do, that’s our job,” Pedroza said.
