SAN ANGELO, Texas — While the new school year may have just started, the Texas Leadership of San Angelo High School band and color guard students have spent part of their summer preparing for their shows.
“It’s coming into practice every day, being motivated and ready to work,” TLCA Senior Jashon Box said.
The West Texas heat didn't stop students from learning new songs and routines.
“We have a little saying around here: It’s everybody wants to be champions, nobody wants to put in the work, so we want to be champions so we have to put in that work,” Box said.
For Box, his love for music began in sixth grade.
“I was first introduced to trumpet but then I think one year after that I got switched to percussion,” he said.
After years of being part of band in junior high and high school, Box is now thinking of his plans after graduation.
“I still want to be in band through college for sure it’s something that I love and I’m passionate about,” he said.
Box is currently preparing for his senior year.
“It’s a little nerve wrecking, not going to lie. It's kinda bittersweet but I'm just ready…ready or not here it comes,” he said.
Box and the rest of the TLCA band will have their first home performance Sept. 2 at the Lake View football game.
