Tom Green County Judge candidates discuss plans for election

Tom Green County Judge candidates got together to answer questions from the community at a lunch forum.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo Pachyderm Club hosted a county judge candidate forum Wednesday afternoon. Community members got the chance to ask the questions to determine who will be the next Tom Green County Judge.

“The mission of the Pachyderm Club is to educate the citizens of Tom Green County and this is how we do it,” San Angelo Pachyderm Club President, Fred Contreras, said.

The four candidates running for the seat to replace retiring incumbent Steve Floyd are Lane Carter, Joe Hyde, Todd Kolls and Tommy Ussery.

Members of the audience had the opportunity to write down a question on an index card which the candidates later answered individually. Some of the common questions touched on the economy, emergency mandates and tax dollars.

“This is the first time I've seen all of the candidates speak and I was really impressed with their knowledge of the position and how it would impact the community. I am really undecided right now about which candidate I'm going to vote for because they all had good answers to the questions that were posed to them,” San Angelo Pachyderm Club member, Becky Long, said.

Long said it’s important to take in consideration many factors when filling out the ballot and choosing a candidate.

“The biggest thing is a candidate who is fiscally responsible, that doesn't want to pad the budget with a lot of unnecessary things, uses our tax dollars appropriately and conservatively that's what I would recommend for anybody considering a candidate to look for,” Long said.

The primary election will be March 1, 2022. For more information visit tomgreencountytx.gov.
