MERKEL, TX. — As you’re driving along I-20 this holiday weekend, you might come across a wagon parked on the side of the road as you pass by Merkel, Texas.
This wagon belongs to Jennifer and Christopher Arms. They have traveled by foot and wagon for about five years now.
Finding themselves homeless in Texas, they then moved to New Mexico to start a new life.
“When we got there we got property, we got a good job, started building up what we thought society wanted us to do, and we lost track of God and because of that our marriage started to separate,” says Christopher.
So, they left it all behind.
“We decided to give up everything, so we sold our trucks, our Harley our campers, everything we owned pretty much, and we got back into the bible and we decided that the best way to help ourselves was to go out and serve others,” says Christopher.
Their mission is to spread the word of God. Throughout their journey, Benjamin Garcia joined about two months ago, leaving it all behind as well.
They landed in Merkel in October.
“Merkel was very kind to us, and still is, people still stop and pull in and ask if we’re okay and need anything,” says Jennifer Arms.
Their destination is Colorado.
