ABILENE, Texas — An Abilene man was arrested Thursday morning for stealing an airport vehicle and leading police on a low-speed chase.
According to the Abilene Police Department, Joseph Lee Dosson, 40, of Abilene was arrested just before 5 a.m. Thursday, May 12.
A call of a hit-and-run went to dispatch at 4:11 a.m. Thursday from a driver who said a large truck had hit their vehicle at Judge Ely Boulevard and Avenue E, then left the scene.
Abilene Christian University Police initially made contact with the truck and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the driver, but he did not stop. Abilene Police officers joined in the pursuit.
Dosson continued to evade officers for several blocks. Officers used spike strips to stop the vehicle near Industrial and Treadaway. The vehicle, a 2008 Isuzu NPR refueling truck, was stolen from the Abilene Regional Airport.
Dosson, who police identified as transient, appears to have acted alone and does not appear to be connected to any other groups of concern. Abilene Police are working in conjunction with federal partners and additional charges are possible, when the investigation ends.
He was charged with third-degree felony evading arrest and second-degree felony theft. Dosson is being held in the Taylor County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $60,000.
