ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Police Department is investigating a false "active shooter" call about a Wylie Independent School campus Friday morning.
The APD said at approximately 11:51 a.m., dispatch received a call claiming an "active shooter" incident was happening at a Wylie ISD campus. Officers responded accordingly and the call was found to have been falsely reported.
Police presence will remain at the school for the duration of the day, the APD said. There was no danger to students or staff at any of the district campuses.
The department reminds citizens that making such false claims are against the law and dangerous. There is an ongoing investigation to identify the person(s) responsible for causing the alarm.

Similar calls were made to other Texas schools including San Angelo and Colorado City, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
