ABILENE, Texas — UPDATE (10:20 a.m. Jan. 20): A call from a stabbing victim led Abilene Police to a scene on Miss Ellie Lane, where there were also two shooting victims. One of the shooting victims, Samuel Shawn Berry, 53, of Abilene, died from his injuries, the APD said in a news release.
According to the release, at approximately 12 a.m. Thursday, officers went to the location on Miss Ellie Lane on an injured subject call.
They found and detained the suspect, identified as Matthew Christopher Marquez of Abilene, at the scene.
Emergency medical services started treating the three injured subjects, identified by the APD as:
Stabbing victim – 32-year-old man
Shooting victim #1 – 53-year-old man
Shooting victim #2 – 43-year-old woman
The stabbing victim and second shooting victim were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Marquez was taken to the Taylor County Jail and is being charged with first-degree felony murder and two counts of first-degree felony aggravated assault family violence.
Major Investigations Bureau detectives are actively investigating the incident.
The release said the preliminary investigation shows the incident started as a domestic dispute and all parties involved lived in the same home.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Abilene Police Department's Major Investigation Bureau is investigating the murder of a 53-year-old man that happened overnight in the far south side of the city.
According to a release from the department, the homicide involves a domestic dispute at a home on Miss Ellie Lane, across from the Kirby Lake area.
APD said there is a man in custody for homicide.
