ABILENE, Texas — After the death of five men ranging in age from 21 to 30, the Abilene Police Department says it is investigating several suspected drug overdoses that have happened over the last six weeks.
A release from the APD says preliminary investigations show all of the victims likely ingested a controlled substance in a pill form, which was not prescribed by a licensed physician or filled through a pharmacy, which may have contributed to their deaths.
The release said it's still unknown if these deaths are directly related to the consumption of the said controlled substance or because of other causes.
The department said members of the community that have come into possession of any controlled substance not prescribed by a licensed physician or filled through a pharmacy, should not consume the substances.
Citizens are urged to dispose of any similar substances at safe drop off points located throughout Abilene. Most pharmacies, including CVS and Walgreens, have kiosks available for safe and anonymous disposal.
Anyone with information that could assist in these investigations is asked to contact the department’s non-emergency number at 325-673-8331 or Abilene Crime Stoppers at 676-TIPS (8477).
