ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Police are looking for a man they say robbed an Abilene bank at gunpoint. The robbery happened at First State Bank, 2118 S. Treadaway Blvd., Tuesday morning.
According to APD Lt. Scott Hill, at approximately 8 a.m. Tuesday, a bank employee was opening the bank and was ambushed by an unknown suspect.
Hill said early reports indicate there may have been a suspicious vehicle in the area Monday morning.
"That possibly could have been casing the place," Hill said. "But right now, that's unconfirmed."
The suspect has been described as a black male, approximately 40 years old, six feet tall with a stocky build. Hill said the man was wearing a toboggan with holes cut out for the eyes and mouth.
A weapon, described as a pistol, was displayed once the bank employee was ambushed and forced inside the building.
The bank employee sustained a small injury to the bridge of her nose and told police she was struck by the weapon.
Hill said the robber can be charged with a federal crime with the robbery of the bank.
Police deployed a drone to search for the suspect.
The man escaped with an undisclosed amount of money from the robbery.
Anyone with knowledge of the crime or suspect is asked to contact authorities.
