FBI, Abilene PD identify bank robbery suspect

The man in custody was identified as being in his 70s and from El Paso by the APD.

ABILENE, Texas — Through a joint investigation with the local FBI office, the Abilene Police Department said it has identified the suspect in a bank robbery which occurred in the early morning hours of Sept. 24, 2019, at the First State Bank, 2118 S. Treadaway Blvd.

A female bank executive had fought with the suspect, and he ultimately left without any cash. 

An APD press release said through an extensive investigation spanning several months and countless man hours, and with the aid of several law enforcement agencies, the suspect’s vehicle, and ultimately the suspect himself, was identified as a 70-year-old man from El Paso.

The man, whose name was not given by authorities, is currently in custody on unrelated charges. A complaint has been filed federally against the suspect in connection with the robbery of the First State Bank South Treadaway Abilene location. A federal warrant was issued for the robbery. 

 APD thanked the Dallas and El Paso Federal Bureau of Investigation offices for the joint investigation which led to the identification of the suspect.
