HOUSTON — The Houston Police Department’s Robbery Division hopes someone will recognize a kidnapping and robbery suspect caught on surveillance video.
The victim told investigators he was in his vehicle at a Home Depot on the Gulf Freeway on Saturday, Oct. 5, when two men suddenly jumped in with him.
Speaking to KHOU 11, the victim said the men had accents that he couldn't place. He said the suspect in the front passenger's seat pointed a gun at him, while the suspect in the back seat rummaged through his stuff.
"It was like something you'd see in the movies, I just thought this could be the last time I’m alive," the victim told KHOU 11. "At first they were like not to make any sudden movements, not to do anything stupid, that my life is worth more than a couple dollars."
He said the suspects made him drive around while they searched his car. Then they made him drive to a nearby Chase Bank on Woodridge Drive where he was forced to withdraw cash from the ATM. He said the first transaction triggered a scam alert.
"They basically just made me confirm that it wasn’t a scam so I could pull out money, at first it didn’t go through so they told me to try again," he said.
When the next transaction worked, he was forced to withdraw $900. The suspects then forced him to drop them off at an I-HOP nearby where they took the cash and ran off.
"I’m guessing they were working with somebody else because the whole time they were texting somebody, trying to figure out how they were going to get out of this," the victim said. "I've finally made my peace with it, got over it. I just hope this doesn’t happen to anybody else."
The suspect seen on surveillance was an older, heavyset, bald male wearing glasses and a red shirt. The victim describes the suspect in the back seat as a middle-aged man wearing a suit and blue hat.
