TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — Taylor County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested a man near Merkel Sunday after they attempted a stop on a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Sweetwater.
According to a TCSO release, at approximately 10:16 a.m. Sunday, a TCSO patrol deputy found the reported stolen vehicle on the Interstate 20 access road in Trent and tried to stop it.
The driver of the stolen vehicle then tried to evade the deputy by getting on I-20 going eastbound in the westbound lane of traffic. Deputies pursued the stolen vehicle, which later wrecked outside the Merkel city limits.
The driver, later identified as Carl Grimmer, fled on foot and was later found by a TCSO K-9 hiding under a tree in some brush and was arrested.
