SAN ANGELO, Texas — An off-duty San Angelo Police Department officer was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety and charged with driving while intoxicated in mid-December, according to a release issued Jan. 8 from the SAPD.
The release said just after 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, an off-duty San Angelo police officer was detained during a traffic stop conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety near mile marker 470 on US Hwy 87.
During the traffic stop, the trooper who conducted the detention noted the driver had indications of possible intoxication. The DWI investigation resulted in the arrest of Dakota Martin, 33, for the charge of driving while intoxicated - first offense.
Subsequent to the arrest, the SAPD has opened a formal internal investigation with the Office of Professional Standards.
Martin, a nine-year officer with the SAPD, was placed on restricted desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
