SAN ANGELO, Texas — One person has been arrested after a domestic disturbance with his mother turned into a brief standoff with police early Thursday in the area of North Howard Street and Forest Park Avenue.
At the scene, near Brentwood Park, San Angelo Police Department Public Information Officer Richard Espinoza said Curtis Moore, 45, was arrested after the standoff ended.
When officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with Moore's mother and tried to make contact with Moore. He did not want to speak to officers, Espinoza said.
Officers found a safe place for Moore's mother to stay. The department then received a call in the early morning hours from Moore's father, who told police Moore was armed with a pistol and had fired the weapon towards a neighbor's home, hitting their property. Espinoza said no one was injured.
Officers then made contact with Moore via cellphone and tried to get him to come out and speak to them.
"A brief standoff took place. Fortunately, we were able to make contact with him over the phone about four or five times," Espinoza said. "Got him to come outside, get taken into custody safely. No citizens, no police officers injured."
Espinoza said the situation is being investigated by the department's Criminal Investigations Unit and there is no danger to the public.
Moore has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon - family member. He was booked into the Tom Green County Jail with no bond set, according to jail records.
