SAN ANGELO, Texas — A woman is in stable condition after being shot Sunday night on Pope Street.
According to a release from the San Angelo Police Department, officers were dispatched to a house of Pope at approximately 8:05 a.m. Sunday on a report of a shooting victim.
They found a 50-year-old woman with a gunshot wound. She was taken to Shannon Medical Center by the San Angelo Fire Department and was listed in stable condition at the time of the release from the SAPD.
The department's Criminal Investigations Division joined the investigation and the suspected shooter was identified as Luis Herrera, 37.
During the course of the investigation, officers learned Herrera was in a travel trailer at a home on Spaulding Street. As officers established a perimeter around the home, Herrera fired multiple shots from inside of the trailer.
SAPD’s SWAT and Crisis Negotiation teams were utilized and Herrera was arrested after a brief standoff. He was taken to Shannon for treatment of minor injuries.
The department said in the release the investigation is ongoing and there is no danger to the public.
No officers/civilians were injured during the investigation. Additional information/charges will follow as the investigation continues.
