SAN ANGELO, Texas — San Angelo Police officers arrested a 31-year-old man on multiple charges after they tried to conduct a traffic stop on the car he was driving and he led them on a pursuit.
According to a release from the San Angelo Police Department, at approximately 6:16 p.m. Thursday, Anti-Crime Unit officers tired to stop a car near the intersections of East 7th and Volney streets.
The driver, Jason Lujan, 31, was identified by officers before the stop and they were aware he had multiple felony warrants for his arrest.
Lujan disregarded police lights/sirens and kept driving, leading officers on a pursuit, during which the release said officers observed Lujan shoot at the pursuing units.
He eventually stopped the car in the 500 block of South Lincoln Street, where he was arrested.
Further investigation showed Lujan was in possession of multiple guns, body armor and suspected methamphetamine.
Lujan was arrested for his felony warrants; evading arrest/detention with a motor vehicle; aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against a police officer; and possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1 >1<4g.
More charges will be forthcoming as the incident is investigated further, the SAPD said. No officers or civilians were reported injured and no damage to public or private property was reported.
The SAPD’s Anti-Crime and Gang units and Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene and Patrol divisions all assisted with the investigation.
