Sentencing in murder of San Antonio tv station account executive takes place Monday

Christopher Olivarez was stabbed to death at his home on the south side back in 2021.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is getting sentenced on Monday in the deadly stabbing of a 40-year-old man. Christopher Olivarez was stabbed to death at his home on the south side back in 2021.

The accused, Sebastian Hernandez, entered a plea deal back in August for this crime.

Through Crime Stopper tips, police arrested Hernandez nine months after Olivarez was killed in September of 2021.

Investigators say Hernandez allegedly stabbed Olivarez to death at his home on the south side. They also believe Hernandez took off in Olivares' car, because it was found days later burned outside the city.

Through testing police say Hernandez's DNA was found on the murder weapon. In the plea hearing for this, Hernandez pleaded no contest for the murder.

It doesn't mean he's admitting guilt, but is accepting the punishment for the crime.

Olivarez' mom, Mary Coronado was at the hearing in August and wishes more could be done.

"It felt like a wave of disappointment,” said Coronado. “It doesn't feel like a true justice is what I can say....it really has changed our lives dramatically without him being here. The pain in my heart never goes away."

Olivarez worked at local tv stations News 4 and Fox 29 as an account executive from 2012 to 2016.

Coronado says she wants the judge to give Hernandez the maximum sentence.

The sentencing is taking place at 9 a.m. at the Bexar County Justice Center.
