Two suspects face federal charges after SAPD officers seize guns, drugs, stolen property Thursday

Two wanted fugitives were arrested by San Angelo Police officers Thursday. Firearms, drugs, cash and other items were seized in the separate arrests.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Two wanted fugitives were arrested by San Angelo Police Wednesday in two separate incidents. Cash, narcotics, stolen property, firearms and drug paraphernalia were seized from the arrests. The two are now facing federal charges.

According to a press release from the San Angelo Police Department, on Thursday afternoon, May 14, officers responded to the Super 8 Motel on West Avenue L for the report of an unconscious subject. During the field investigation, members of the department’s Gang Unit were called to the scene to investigate a suspected gang member who was in possession of a firearm.

During the field investigation, officers found and seized approximately 21 grams of suspected methamphetamine; 62 grams of suspected cocaine; approximately three grams of suspected heroin; an assortment of drug paraphernalia; and a large amount of suspected stolen property.

The suspect, later identified by fingerprint at the Tom Green County Jail as wanted fugitive Joe Perales, 55, was initially charged with a U.S. Marshal hold warrant. Federal charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Later Thursday evening, Anti-Crime Unit officers spotted a wanted fugitive, Richard Castillo, 24, in a vehicle near 7th and Chadbourne streets. Castillo was taken into custody without incident and found to be in possession of approximately eight ounces of suspected methamphetamine; approximately $1,300 in U.S. currency; two stolen firearms (confirmed); and a third suspected stolen firearm.

Castillo was charged with his warrants, motion to revoke possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1 <1 g; motion to revoke possession of a controlled substance Penalty Group 1 >=1G<4G; and evading arrest detention with vehicle/watercraft. Federal charges are pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
