ABILENE, Texas — The Wylie Independent School District is working with the Abilene Police Department in investigating a threat made by a high school student at Wylie High School.
In a written statement, WHS principal Tim Smith said the APD was contacted immediately when the school learned about the safety threat.
"The Abilene Police Department began an immediate investigation and found that the threat was not imminent," the statement read. "As a precautionary measure, the student in question has been secured from campuses and additional security at the high school campus has been added."
Smith said the district will continue to work with the APD with the investigation.
Addressing concerns, Smith said the administration at Wylie ISD exercised extreme diligence and tool all proper action required by law to investigate and complete threat assessment protocols already in place by the district.
Although the nature of the threat was not given in the statement, Smith said these types of threats are against the district's code of conduct and can be legally considered a terroristic threat.
