SAN ANGELO, Texas — For the 14th consecutive year, Angelo State University has been listed by The Princeton Review as one of the country's best institutions for undergraduate education.
The ranking goes to only about 14% of the nation's more than 2,700 four-year colleges, according to a release from ASU.
The education services company features Angelo State in the 2023 edition of its annual college guide, "The Best 388 Colleges". The guide is The Princeton Review's flagship publication and includes detailed profiles of the colleges with rating scores that are based on surveys of more than 160,000 students nationally.
"We salute Angelo State University for its outstanding academics and its many other impressive offerings," Rob Franek, TPR editor-in-chief, said in the release. "We're delighted to recommend ASU as an ideal choice for students searching for their 'best-fit' college."
ASU is one of 14 Texas institutions and one of only six Texas public universities to make the 2023 "Best Colleges" list.
"This continued recognition by The Princeton Review is particularly noteworthy because it's based primarily on feedback from our students," ASU President Ronnie Hawkins Jr. said in the release. "It reaffirms that we are fulfilling our mission and vision to provide the academic and student life programs our students need to be successful and significant. I'm proud of the entire Ram Family for pulling together as a team, staying committed to our Core Values, and embracing opportunities to give our students a college experience of the highest quality."
"Angelo State University is an exemplary institution that is committed to providing its campus community with the highest-quality opportunities, campus culture and environment," Tedd L. Mitchell, M.D., chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, said. "I commend President Ronnie Hawkins and his leadership team, along with the students, faculty and staff, for earning this recognition for a remarkable 14th consecutive year while continuing to achieve excellence for the entire Ram Family."
The 85-question TPR survey asks students to rate their own schools on numerous topics and report on their campus experiences. Topics range from assessments of academics and professors to campus culture and student life. Of the 388 colleges on this year's list, ASU ranked No. 12 in the "Best-Run Colleges" category and No. 16 in the "Lots of Race/Class Interaction" category.
In a "Survey Says" sidebar included in Angelo State's profile in the print edition of "The Best 388 Colleges," ASU students were in most agreement about several of their survey answers, including:
- Lots of conservative students
- Students are happy
- School is well run
- Diverse student types interact on campus
- Students get along with local community
- Intramural sports are popular
On a scale of 60-99, ASU received a financial aid rating of 84, a green rating of 86, a fire safety rating of 89 and a quality of life rating of 93.
