SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Family Shelter of San Angelo is asking the community for back-to-school donations.
With inflation impacting so many families across the country, shelter children’s advocate Jennifer Porras said fewer donations for children in the shelter has decreased compared to recent years.
“It's been hard for a lot of families and we can understand that. Still, we want to make sure we send off our kids with the best chance they have. We want them to feel like we're supporting them completely when going to school,” Porras said.
There are 13 girls and boys at the shelter and Porras said donations will go a long way towards investing in the children's futures.
“We haven't got as many donations as we normally do. So we are kind of waiting and seeing if anything's going to come here at the end," Porras said.
Normally the shelter has children younger than 11 years old, but this year Porras said it's very different. This year, the majority of children range in age from 11-17.
The shelter is in need of the usual items but here are a few mentioned by shelter representatives:
Backpacks
Pencils/pens
Folders
Paper
Markers
Crayons
Notebooks
Earphones
