Health officials report second COVID-19 related death in Taylor County

The second COVID-19 related death was a man in his 70s, with underlying health conditions.

ABILENE, Texas — The Abilene Taylor County Public Health District has reported the second COVID-19 related death for Taylor County Wednesday, April 15.

The patient who died was a male in his 70s, with underlying health conditions, who was being cared for at Hendrick Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit. The patient’s infection was acquired through community contact. This case was not related to Disability Resources, Inc.

This and all future COVID-19 related deaths in Taylor County will be reported through the City’s daily testing numbers report that can be found on the City’s website homepage, as well as its Facebook and Twitter pages.

The Abilene Taylor-County Public Health District urges area residents to slow the spread of COVID-19 by:

Practicing social distancing, and staying home as much as possible;

Wearing a mask when away from home;

Washing or sanitizing hands often, and avoid touching your face;

Covering sneezes and coughs;

Staying home if you are sick,

Routinely cleaning commonly-touched surfaces;

Symptoms of COVID-19 include cough, fever of 100.4 degrees or higher, fatigue and difficulty breathing.
