CALLAHAN COUNTY, Texas — Callahan County Judge G. Scott Kniffen issued a press release Monday stating there is a confirmed case of COVID-19 in Callahan.
According to the press release, the individual is 50-64 years of age and the case is travel-related. No other details have been release to the public at the time.
Kniffen urges all residents to continue practicing safety precautions recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
At an emergency Callahan County Commissioners Court meeting, Kniffen issued a "Stay Home - Stay Safe" order, stating that individuals may only leave their home for essential activities which as defined in the order as:
1. To engage in activities essential to health and safety or the health and safety of family or household members.
2. To obtain necessary services or supplies for household.
3. To engage in outdoor activity while practicing social distancing.
4. To perform work providing essential products or services at an essential business.
5. To care for a family member in another household.
The order also limits household purchases from local supply chains. The order specifically limits the amount of toilet paper that can be bought in a single purchase once package of a maximum of eight rolls of toilet paper, one container of hand sanitizer, one box of tissue and one package of baby or sanitizing wipes per purchase. The limitations are in effect for two weeks or whenever supply can again meet demand.
In an emailed statement, Kniffen said, "I urge you all to continue to practice the safety precautions recommended by the CDC and the Texas DSHS. Please keep this individual, the other victims of this disease, our first responders, our medical personnel, and our State and Nation in your prayers."
