Details released on Taylor County's first COVID-19 case; Dyess AFB reports a case as well

The first confirmed case is a resident of Disability Resources and did not travel outside of Abilene. No details were given regarding case at Dyess.

TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas —

The City of Abilene issued a press release Friday regarding its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the first individual to test positive for COVID-19 in Taylor County.

The following information was released:

  • The infected individual is a resident of Disability Resources, Inc., and was not recently engaged in travel outside of the city. There is also no clear source of exposure at this time.

  • Ten individuals who provided care to the infected individual are undergoing testing for COVID-19.

  • All group activities at DRI have been suspended, and residents must remain in their individual homes.

  • Based on the information revealed in this investigation, the Abilene Taylor County Public Health District is reaching out to area long-term care facilities to insure proper screening and precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are in place.

Dyess Air Force Base has also notified the City of its first confirmed positive case of COVID-19 on base, bringing our combined positive case total to 2. The City will continue to work with Dyess in our joint effort to minimize the spread of COVID-19 across our community.
