ABILENE, Texas — Hendrick Health has moved its COVID-19 Community Safety Dial to Level 6: Emergency.

As of Tuesday, Trauma Service Area D (TSA-D), which includes all three of Hendrick Health’s hospitals, had seven consecutive days with the number of COVID-19 hospitalized patients (as a percentage of total hospital capacity) exceeded 15 percent.

Fourteen of the 16 counties in TSA-D have been labeled counties with “high” rate of COVID-19 transmission by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Trauma Service Area-D includes Brown, Callahan, Coleman, Comanche, Eastland, Fisher, Haskell, Jones, Knox, Mitchell, Nolan, Shackelford, Stephens, Stonewall, Taylor and Throckmorton counties.

Hendrick Health has stood up its Emergency Operations Center to address capacity constraints caused by increased COVID-19 hospitalizations and cases in the community.

Hendrick is reaching out to medical personnel within the community, including retired nurses and physicians, to care for patients as temporary employees.
